The first day of hurricane season along the Atlantic basin is quiet with no named storms in the foreseeable future. But Houston and other cities in the hurricane zone are on alert and will be watching the skies for any sign of change.
For the first time in 10 years, there were no tropical storms or hurricanes in the month of May. Does that mean it will be a quiet hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to December 1.
Forecasters Bill Gray and Phil Klotzbach have shifted their forecast for the season from above average to just average, which is possibly good news for those along the Gulf Coast and in the Caribbean. Here’s the full report.
They are predicting 12 named storms and six hurricanes, including at least two with winds exceeding 110 miles per hour.
