Helping Hubble

The Hubble Space Telescope has revolutionized our understanding of outer space. It has changed science textbooks forever and it has helped foster a life-long interest in things beyond Earth.

Now the giant bus-sized telescope is being updated and improved for the final time, adding about 5-10 years to its existing two decades.

When astronauts aboard the space shuttle finish servicing the instrument for the final time it will have 90 times greater imaging capability which will allow us to see deeper into space and back in time, possibly to within a few hundred million years after the Big Bang.

Canadian radio host Bob McDonald talks to CBC about the shuttle mission and Hubble telescope.
