Scientists build a working heart in the lab

Researchers at University of Minnesota have overcome a huge hurdle when it comes to building transplant organs. Using a new technique, they removed all the heart cells from a rat heart and replaced them with younger cells. And, much to their surprise the heart started beating again. This is the first step toward creating bioartificial organs. This could lead to the same process with kidneys, lungs and livers.
