New research from Alabama may spell the end for sickle cell anemia, a serious blood disorder that affects many African Americans. Using the new non-embryonic stem cell technique that was announced a couple of weeks ago, Dr. Tim Townes has created a way to correct the DNA mutation and make new sickle-free blood cells. Next stop.
