One of the worst polluters in the developing world has just joined the Kyoto Protocol to try to stave off the worst effects of global warming. The long-term drought that Australia has experienced played a role in finally ratifying the treaty that would place limits on emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. But it is Australia’s new labor government that is making it possible. Representatives will attend the Bali Climate Summit later this month. The United States now remains the only major developed nation that has not ratified the Kyoto Protocol.
