Researchers trying to build stronger, lighter-weight bridges and buildings have to be able to create new and study existing construction materials. X-rays and electron microscopy only go so far. To see into a complex material, made with solids, liquids and gases, something stronger is required. That’s where neutron science and the year-old Spallation Neutron Source comes into play.
