Will particles smaller than a virus or many chemical compounds hurt people, animals or the environment? That is the unanswered question of nanotechnology and one of the biggest fears. Government agencies are starting to fund scientists looking at this question in hopes of determining what to expect at the atomic level where all bets are off.
