Scientists are about to embark on a research mission to the Gakkel Ridge–one of the most remote seafloor locations in the world. It lies under the Arctic Ocean to the north of Greenland. Any animals that live there have been isolated from other species for millions of years. Biologists and oceanographers are hoping to find new species and get a look at what primordial Earth might have looked like. The 40-day expedition begins soon.
