A new rock bearing a striking similarity to the chemical composition of a Warner Bros. movie mineral is blurring the line between science fiction and fact. The 2006 movie Superman Returns includes a scene where the rock that will kill the man of steel is stolen from a museum. All that remains is a placard listing kryptonite’s chemical makeup. Most of the fictional chemistry matches the newly discovered real life mineral Jadarite, which was recently found in a Serbian mine.
