The invisible pollution plumes from Asia are beginning to have an effect on air quality in the form of smog. On some days up to 25 percent of the particlate matter in Los Angeles skies comes from Asia. During one particular week in 2003 a whopping 50 percent of small particulate matter over Mt. Rainier came from places like China and India. Scientists are launching a new study to find if the industrial emissions increases in Asia are affecting North American weather, storms and climate.
